A moment’s change in life can disclose an exciting and unexpected future. Kor has few memories of his early years and is therefore left to speculate about the significance of a pendant he wears and the reason behind a string of recurrent nightmares. Kor makes every effort not to be discovered by the mercenaries scouring the area since he is wanted by King Leon for tax evasion and murder.
But when a scream one day disturbs the largely peaceful Borwood Timberland, Kor decides to take on a terrifying borlan, setting off a chain of events that will reveal the truth about who he truly is. Badgerblood: Awakening, which is geared toward young adults, features both intricate plots and multifaceted characters.
The amount of romance and foul language is kept to a minimum, broadening the readership for this work. The action sequences are especially well-written and detailed, frequently taking up several pages while engrossing readers with their cinematic elements. Young adult readers who are less experienced will enjoy the plot’s maturity without being overpowered by the graphic material, and they will feel pressured to read the book quickly.
This book’s world-building, which takes place naturally throughout the story while taking place in a fantasy setting, is an essential part of its design. To help them more readily situate themselves in this foreign environment, readers are given a map of the land depicted in the novel at the opening of the book.
The plot is complicated by interesting characters and a group of interdependent kingdoms, whose relationships are established in relation to one another. This book, which is the first in a series, provides readers with a thorough understanding of Kor and Len’s shared environment while laying the groundwork for the excitement to come in later volumes.
This book deftly introduces two folktales from this magical world, both of which are directly reflected in the storyline. The tale is kept interesting by excellent writing, which occasionally informs readers of details that the book’s characters may not be aware of themselves.
The tale comes together even more flawlessly with each new revelation, and the novel logically calls for a sequel. Readers of fantasy who choose action and adventure over romance will find this to be a solid start to the Badgerblood series.
About The Book
Few dare venture into the Borwood Timberland—a vast forest steeped in sky-piercing trees, demon creatures, and legend.
Few, except Kor.
An ancient gift pulses in his veins. The blood of shifting kings and queens flows through him. But he has forgotten his past and his lineage. Oblivious to his power, blind to his gift, his nightmares hold him captive.
Now a tyrant wants him dead.
When a strange, amber-eyed girl braves the forest in search of a rare flower and encounters a borlan, Kor has a choice: run, or face the spined demon-beast to help her.
His decision sparks a chain of events that sends him to rot in the salt mines of Perabon and pits him against a ruthless mercenary. His path awakens his gift, recalls his past, and unveils a murderous intrigue.
The Review
Badgerblood: Awakening
Badgerblood Awakening was a great read for my girls and I! It felt so familiar, but new in an exciting way. I love young adult fantasies and this book definitely fits! The subtle humor throughout the book literally made me chuckle out-loud and the world the author created with amazing imagery and well developed and interesting characters made it feel like literally like watching a movie in my head. It also has many twist to the story and plenty of action that make this book a fun read, one that you don’t want to put down. For a self published book it was incredibly well written with no errors that I could find and it flows so well. I highly recommend giving this author your attention. My girls and I honestly can’t wait for book two!
