The third and most thrilling novel in the The Radius series is titled Fighting for the Radius by D.M. Muga. This third book picks up immediately after the second one and continues the exploits of Ben Reilly, his friends, and family as they approach the climactic explosion of this epic.
The group must fight with their new friends to protect what is left of their world and the human species after seeing friendly faces from the feared Earth 2 that had been described in the earlier books! It is difficult to not find this type of scenario exciting, of course.
The characters in The Radius series, and especially this most recent book, have adopted a balls to the wall attitude, in contrast to many other dystopian novels. These characters are tough and well written, well equipped and not afraid to use their weaponry when the circumstance calls for it, as well as later more futuristic technologies.
The female characters in this most recent book caught my attention in especially because the author avoided portraying them as too sentimental and irrational, which happens frequently when male authors attempt to write deeply into the minds of female characters. The only intriguing interstellar females left are strong equals to their male counterparts.
However, if you have read the first three books in the Radius series, you know what to expect from Muga’s writing and won’t be surprised by the choices his characters make. I should also note that this is a violent book, with both sci-fi violence and some very bloody scenes that may be offensive to some people.
Additionally to violent circumstances, there are also sexual ones. Simply put, this is not a book that the impressionable or young should read. However, D.M. Muga’s The Radius is a must-read if you’re seeking for a realistic (for science fiction) end-of-the-world story.
About The Book
On May 19th, 2023, scientists at Caltech were successful with not only simulating a black hole but creating a temporary black hole, which lasted exactly 60 seconds. The affected area of the temporary black hole was that of a radius of 71 miles at its largest width, 23 miles at its largest height, and six miles into the Earth at its deepest depth.
For every second that passed by inside of that radius, twenty-three and a half years passed by outside of that radius. This resulted in the advent of the Blue Hole Radius, stalling time for those trapped inside for 1,410 years.
Benjamin Reilly, Eileen Rivera, Alexander Mathis, and the rest of the survivors of the Blue Hole Radius have adapted to their newfound lives within the Radius in the year 3433. However, the people of Earth One are faced with an otherworldly problem… the people of Earth Two.
Their successors have returned to Earth One, and not all of them have good intentions for the survivors of the Radius. With Benjamin and Eileen, alongside the rest of the survivors, carving out a new form of existence within the Radius, they must face their most daunting enemy of all.
Follow Benjamin, Eileen, Alexander, and the rest of the survivors of the Radius, once again. Will they be able to defeat their futuristic foes? If our survivors can close the evolutionary gap, how will they defeat Captain Abraham Jackson and the Federalist Legion from Earth Two? Do they even stand a chance? Or will the drastic evolutionary gap of 1,410 years result in the equivalent of nukes versus sticks and stones?
The Review
The Radius Book 3: Fighting for the Radius
I have enjoyed DM Muga’s The Radius series from the very beginning. The last book? In this trilogy definitely ramps ups the action and the drama. I really dug DM Muga’s post apocalyptic world building. A fun sci-fi with characters you care about. Great, imaginative series. One of my new favorites. I highly recommend them! Well done DM. Now more?
